Being a huge fan of the first Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips, I was massively anticipating the sequel even though I felt the first movie was fine as a single film. Turns out it probably should have stayed a one off single movie!
The creative decision to make Joker Folie à Deux a musical was baffling to learn before its release, and disappointing to say the least when I finally saw it. I am not opposed to musicals... one of my childhood favourite movies was Grease, but the songs in that movie are part of the story. If the musical numbers in Joker Folie à Deux were integral to the story or added to the narrative I would have accepted it, but they just don't.
So like many others in the FanEdit community I took it upon myself to remove all the musical numbers and re-title the movie to Joker Part Two. Only one performance remains which I moved into a post credit scene. A couple of intrumental songs from the first Joker movie soundtrack were integrated where neccessary so footage could be used but without the singing.
I think it plays like a normal movie now, or as normal as a Joker movie can be! It's quite a dark film without the songs, but I like that tone for this version of the character.
Run time is now 1 hour 48 minutes. Rendered with AAC 5.1 surround sound.
